Pre-Order Verizon Droid at Best Buy Today

Starting today, Best Buy Mobile will begin to take pre-orders for the Motorola DROID. The DROID is launching on November 6th for $199 and we expect it to be a huge success, so if you’re thinking about going DROID, head to Best Buy as soon as you can! Buying your phone at Best Buy is a much easier process than going through Verizon stores because Best Buy offers instant rebates (instead of mail-in-rebates).

Handy cost of ownership table: Droid, Hero, and myTouch

Check out this contract term cost caparison between Droid, Sprint’s Hero and the myTouch 3G from Android Central. Of course this doesn’t take into account the value of your time, productivity, or frustration, but it’s a handy tool for careful shoppers.

Surprisingly, the Verizon Motorola DROID does a decent job in the ‘cheapest plan’ battle at $74.98/month. The Sprint HTC Hero and T-Mobile myTouch 3G come in at $69.99 and $79.99, respectively. But Verizon’s low price comes with a catch, Sprint’s ‘cheapest plan’ offers free unlimited calling to any mobile carrier and unlimited messaging. T-Mobile’s comes with 500 whenever minutes and unlimited messaging. Verizon trails them with only 450 whenever minutes and 250 messages. But for users who only use an average amount of minutes and messages, the monthly cost of the Verizon Motorola DROID is somewhat justifiable considering you’ll be on “America’s Most Reliable Network”.

Motorola Droid Releasing November 6th at $199

After much hype and anticipation, the Motorola Droid is officially official. It’s hitting Verizon on November 6th (like previously rumored) for a very reasonable cost of $199 on new 2-year contract. It’s a ‘Google Experience’ Android device that won’t rock Motorola’s own MOTOBLUR but will run Android 2.0. Android 2.0 comes with its own social networking features so you’ll be fine Mr. Facebook Fiend. So Big Red customers, are you already lining up to buy the DROID?

The official specs of the Motorola DROID:

  • 3.7-inch 854×480 display
  • 5-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash
  • DVD-quality video capture and playback (720×480)
  • 16GB microSD
  • QWERTY keyboard
  • 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS (with Google Maps Navigation)
  • Android 2.0

This is the first device in Verizon’s DROID series and my does it have a look of a winner. Stay tuned for more updates throughout the day!

Droid Website is Live

Motorola Droid

I have to say the specs look good:

Arm® Cortex™ A8 processor 550 mHz

16 GB microSD pre-installed; supports up to 32 GB microSD expandable

Proximity, ambient light and eCompass

3.7″; WVGA (480 x 854 pixels); 16:9 widescreen

6 oz.; 169 g

2.4 x 4.6 x .5 in.; 60.00 x 115.80 x 13.70 mm

The only drawback for me is: 1. It’s a Motorola, 2. It’s very “eh” looking

I’ll have to wait to see it in action before giving my final opinion.
